Fifth Graders,

Tomorrow is our first day of school, and I could not be more excited to see you all! We are going to have a fantastic year together, and I know that you will be a fabulous group of fifth graders! We'll use this blog all year to share things that we do in our classroom, and we'll also use it to have conversations about our learning. The Hunger Games

When Peeta Mellark is selected to be the boy tribute, Katniss feels sick. She reminds us of a time right after her father died, and Peeta basically saved her life by giving her the burned bread. Make a prediction about how you think the games will play out. Will Katniss be able to kill Peeta? Will Peeta be willing to kill Katniss after saving her life?

This week, we started reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. In her interview, Suzanne Collins said that if she were stranded on a deserted island she would want to have these 3 things with her:

1. An endless supply of water
2. Matches
3. A really good survival book

If you were about to be stranded in the arena as Katniss and Peeta are, what three things would you want to be able to take with you? List them in your response.
