Hatchet continued...

Last week, we finished Hatchet by Gary Paulsen. I know that you all really enjoyed the book! Please answer one of the following questions in your response:

1. How did Brian change from the beginning of the story to the end?

2. Towards the end of the story, Brian dreamed of being back at home. When he thought of sitting and simply watching t.v., he wondered if he would wish to be back at the campsite? Why do you think Brian would wish to be back in the wilderness after being rescued?

3. You know that Brian's Winter is an alternate ending to Brian being rescued at the end of the book. What do you think winter will be like for Brian?

  3. I think winter will be hard for Brian because he doesnt have any winter clothes and the lake is going to freeze and then he wont be able to eat fish. Maybe if the foolbirds fly south like all the other birds then he wont have any thing to eat.

  9. Dallas and Jacob,
I think you are both right. Winter is going to be challenging for Brian in that it will be cold and hard to find food. Wrapping in the sleeping bag is a good idea, Dallas! He is lucky that it was in the survival pack! :)

  10. Hayley,
I love the use of the word "spectacular." :) Good for you for using good word choice in your blog as well as in your writing! You are definitely right though...things have been very tough for Brian!

  11. Abby and Hunter,
Brian did learn to survive and adapt to his surroundings. Does this remind you of something you may have learned about in science last year? Just like animals have to adapt to their surroundings, Brian has had to learn to adapt in order to be able to gather food, build a shelter, create a fire, and more!

  12. Aubre,
I think he can do it too! We will find out! :)

    Samantha,
I can tell you were really thinking about Brian's situation in winter. It will be difficult for him without warm clothing. We talked about the lake freezing, but I hadn't thought about the possibility of birds flying south!
